Hi! I’m a dark freeform / NRG fan from the States. I learned to love music through happy hardcore in the late 90’s, but my tastes turned darker than my friends’ as I discovered gabber and freeform hardcore. When I stumbled onto Alek Szahala’s “Xochitlan” mix playing on DI.fm, I discovered the perfect style of music that I thought existed only in my head and nowhere else. As the FiNRG style lost momentum into the very late 00’s, I expanded into other dark music genres like industrial hardcore, dark drum & bass, goa trance and black metal. I still love this music however and believe there are many ways it can be expanded upon in years to come!

Incidentally, I too lived in Japan for a few years, and got my first freeform event experience at Codex in Tokyo. PlasmaDancer played an amazing set as could be expected, and I can still recall dancing around like an idiot to Freezing Clouds, a favorite of mine. That he’s a great guy to meet in person is probably no surprise to anyone that followed him for all the years he’s been active!

At any rate I’m looking forward to having a proper place to discuss the darker side of hardcore on the internet again 🙂

As for great intros, it’s hard to beat the sinister buildup of Alek’s Anmitzcuaca for me.
