Megatherium is one of Alek Szhala’s newest tracks, appearing in a couple of recent podcasts and now set for release on Freeform Family, a 3 CD compilation from Stamina, ReBuild and A-Tech.
Early signs are that the other inclusions are (understandably) very UK-freeform-centric, but Megatherium does a fine job of striking a balance between dancefloor-friendly melodies and the psychedelic madness that Alek does best. A release to look out for, then, and in fact it can already be pre-ordered via the Stamina site.
Alek has spoiled me too much with his darker tracks for me to appreciate this one as much. 😛 It’ll certainly be a standout if I end up picking this release up though.
This tune is out atlast. Im willing to pay for compilation to get this!
Alek sure got me again.
It doesn’t quite match the recently released ‘Avalanche’ for me, but this is still another brilliant track from Mr Szahala which I look forward to playing. Not sure the whole album is going to be my cup of tea, but worth supporting any album that releases and support Alek’s music. Hopefully there’ll be a few other darker tracks to balance out the more UK Hardcore-esque material. Had a raised eyebrow at the tag line ‘the 3 biggest labels in freeform’, but I guess a bit of salesmanship is allowed!!
Now the full track list has been released, I’d liked to have seen more variety, especially considering this is supposed to be representing the ‘freeform family’, two of the CD’s are not too far off being artist albums. The Thumpa CD shows the most variation, but still very UK centric.
Fair comments from everyone, I totally agree – as long as we still hear the darker side of Alek’s music I don’t mind these ‘halfway-house’ kind of tunes at all. Avalanche’s melodies strike the balance a bit better though, I’d say.
The comp’s tracklist is definitely disappointing in terms of variety, but then it’s probably the wrong collaboration of labels to feature much in the way of non-UK stuff…
I agree, but then why use an all encompassing (and misleading) compilation name like ‘Freeform Family’, when it should be more like ‘Freeform Bros’ lol 🙂
