Epilim is generally acknowledged to be one of the real founders of the Finnish sound, though Proteus’ sets are about the only place to hear his material. Brilliant work from mixu, then, who has unearthed a couple of unreleased tracks. The first (which thanks to Jiipez, we now know is titled Trip 3) is a slow burner with some really nice trancy melodies and a fantastic second half, while the second (Plasma) sounds like it could have influenced everything from Cyclone to Maruuk with its post-breakdown hoovers. Almost goes without saying, but both are essential listens for anyone with the slightest interest in the origins of our scene.
Since the original post, mixu has uploaded a third tune with a lovely, chilled breakdown. Does anyone have any idea what this one’s called?
I must add though, that I’ve got such impression, that the majority however doesn’t really have a clue about Epilim or his stuff and his status as an influencer. Reason being quite clear – nobody wanted to use his tracks in sets just to respect his memory.
About these tracks; the first one is called “Trip 3” and second one is a bit more well-known, “Plasma”.
And good call on Maruuk – I actually remember Alek saying, that “Plasma” was the only tune from Epilim he really got to known.
To be honest, i’ve never heard of him/them.
You know me though, sponge of information! Research INC! 😀
Yes, a terrific job by mixu! I think this is a great way to immortalize his work and name!
Unless Epilim specifically said otherwise, there is no reason not to play/show the world his tracks. Hearing this I respect him even more!
Plasma is ridiculous. Saw harri finish with it at wildchild a few years ago. Mind blowing NRG anthem
Brilliant Jiipez, thanks a lot…I was wondering if one of them might be Plasma!
Although I completely understand Proteus’ wish to play the tunes in his own sets as a tribute, it’s also really important for people these days to know just how big a role he played in shaping the scene. Awesome uploads like these do the job perfectly 🙂
Third is “Beyond The Love”, once played by DJ Galrav in one of his early promomixes, I think.
And I agree that IMO there shouldn’t be a reason for not playing his tracks, it’s just that _years_ ago there was actually a little debate between certain people about that who has the rights (and a reason) to play his tracks etc. – thus his music was slowly forgotten..
Here is some track names of Epilim:
Path 2 paradise
Beat of the drum
Trip 3
Optic touch
Desert eagle
Beyond the love
Rapid fire
Loud
Hardtrance
5-0
Plasma
Windup
“It’s not all freeform btw. First one is a intro track, and there’s some hard trance, freeform, hh etc..”
