It’s always educational/awesome to see artists at work in their sequencers, and an Alek Szahala demonstration has been on the TYFTH wishlist for a long time now. Today’s the day, then, and the track in question is the recent FINRG release, Ziggurat.
Like Aryx’s excellent Galaxis video, this really gives a sense of what’s needed to make a quality track, and anyone with the slightest understanding of Reason will get a lot from Alek’s showcasing of the melody lines and synths. Many thanks to Alek for taking the time to put the video together, here’s hoping that it inspires a few more tunes into existence.
That is just pure awesome sauce. Its good to see a producer actually using reason to its potential. It gets such a bad rep in terms of productions software due to its lack of flexability, because it doesn’t work with VST/VSTi’s.
The bits of production i’ve dabbled with have been with Reason, and i can honestly say its the most intuitive and easy to use production software on the market. It’s a pitty it gets bad rep because of the flexability tho 🙁
I’ve been thinking of getting into production quite a lot lately, but still haven’t gotten around to it. I have no idea of what software is good to start with if you have little to no production experience. Sounds like Reason might be worth to check out?
These videos are very inspiring and it is great that these artists take the time to record them. Thanks a lot!
I am looking forward to the next chapter. 🙂
And while I’m on the topic of Ziggurat. I have just uploaded a new freeform mix to my soundcloud page. Over a year has passed since I uploaded my last mix so this one is well over due. It would be wicked to get some input on it from you guys. 🙂

Hope you don’t mind me doing some self promotion on here Plasma. 🙂
There’s definitely something to be said for the self-contained aspect of Reason…personally I reckon the lack of VSTs is a good thing, as you know exactly what tools you’ll be working with each time.
Anyway, as the artists using Reason include Alek, Betwixt & Between (up until a couple of years ago), Re-form, Proteus (with Logic), Guld, Aryx and Munetica…that’s about as convincing an argument as you could make, really.
Labraska
Self promote away! I only had time to listen to half of the set yesterday, but it was sounding great…I’ll try to get a proper post up tomorrow 🙂
I didn’t know btw used Reason, too. That’s nice.
And I’ll hear your set as soon as possible Labraska, I haven’t had much time lately!
