I’ve finally had a chance to check out Pearsall’s newest mix, and it’s an absolute must-listen for anyone interested in the roots of freeform. Concentrating on the earliest of early tracks from the late 90s/early 2000s, the tunes from this era have a really nice feel, replacing the happy melodies of the mid-90s with trance/NRG-style acid and hoovers. Pre-internet and trapped in darkest Wales, I still managed to hear a few of the tunes in this set via pirated event mixtapes and the occasional trancecore set on Radio Cymru…the majority are new to me though, which made it a another fantastically educational listen.
Pearsall has done some fine work on the set itself, structuring it brilliantly, while the mixing is of course top class. Once again he has gone beyond the call of duty in his original post, taking the time to write a genuinely interesting summary/history of each and every track.
The tracklist is down below, but check the post on Sonicrampage for the download link.

Pearsall does it again!
Truly shows he has a passion and enthusiasm for the music he plays. Which makes the mix all the better in my opinion. Adds a nice new depth/dimension to the whole experience 🙂
Massive props!
Cheers guys! I put a lot of time and effort into these mixes (as well as the blogs), so it’s always a pleasure when other people appreciate the end results. 🙂
It’s actually been interesting for me how much I’ve gotten back into freeform since I did this mix – I’ve been downloading and listening to a lot of mixes and listening to a lot of new freeform, which has been awesome!
Actually, out of curiosity, of the stuff that was new to you, what was your favorite?
There is some awesome freeform around at the moment, you just have to dig below the surface.

I don’t think there was a tune I disliked, but that Active Tekno – Time Becomes A Loop section was especially nice 🙂
I had Brisk’s Dreamscape set on loop today, really good stuff!
Ah, that was a tough one to put together, because they sequenced Time Becomes A Loop in a very strange way, so it’s not the most seamless transition, but the energy works.
