  1. A very enjoyable and “Pearsall-esque” read there Jon. I always love reading blurb about mixes, shows the passion you have for our music/scene and the reasons/influences for track selection. It also adds another dimension to the mix when you understand the story behind it. My mixes tend to consist of a shit load of lager and whatever tunes I pull out of the cd wallet haha

  2. I agree with Alderz there. If the DJ has put a lot of thought in the mix, and has points to make about the tunes and the selection, it’s going to be an interesting read.

  3. Thanks guys, I thought I might have Pearsalled everyone into submission for a minute there 😉

I actually feel really strongly about this – I’m continually harping on about how we need more deep, emotional freeform, so the least I can do as a DJ is to put some serious thought into a set and do my best to ‘tell a story’ with what the producers come up with.

It takes a heck of a lot of effort, but so does making the music, after all. Just one comment like Aldz’s on soundcloud makes it all worth it…much appreciated 🙂

Definitely a time and place for an improvised set though, I’ve been trying hard to improve that side of things this past year.

  4. Haha, I read this a few days back but didn’t respond as I was doing family stuff, so imagine my surprise when I came back today to download the mix and find that, lo and behold, I am now a verb! 😀

Anyways, great read, really looking forward to checking out the mix, just putting it on now …

  5. Well, if you don’t have to worry about efficiency, then the effort is no problem.

What few mixtapes I’ve made, have taken something like a (full) day to construct in Ableton, and finding the tunes is another thing on top of that. Live sets can take weeks, depending on how much live stuff there is to practice. I don’t consider it waste of time, though, because it’s something I really like to do.
