  1. Hey, thanks for posting the set here!

About the Elektaasi party video – that is actual footage from last Saturday evening. How our main organiser managed to compile, edit and upload it by Sunday afternoon is completely beyond me, but there it is. Due to future changes in the “venue”, this was the 9th and the last Elektaasi, and the video is our crew thanking the audience and everyone involved for making the event what it was. I suppose that message would be more evident if it was in some other language than Finnish.

It’s been a wonderful and a little different annual tradition, because the place is actually the loading platform of a shopping mall, opening to a walking street right in the center of the small city. (For those who came to the FINRG party, that was 1 block away from this place.) It was also completely free and without an age limit, which is the reason the place was completely packed with young people. They’ve been surprisingly energetic every year too, of which the video maybe gives you some idea. I was honestly getting a little nervous by the time the ecstatic front row started jumping really close to the exposed mixing table. :p But of course who wouldn’t love playing to such an intense crowd!

And Gangnam Style? 😀 Well, the youngsters know their Internets, and Gangnam’s been THE meme lately, so I kind of made it just for this event and it worked as well as I had hoped. Remixing it in such a tight schedule was possible because like most pop music, it’s quite simple in terms of melodies, chords etc. when compared to e.g. the video game soundtracks I usually work with. I got it done from start to finish in just three free evenings, which is probably a record for me. Well okay, one of them was an all-nighter, but still. Anyway, it was not only to give the young crowd a treat, but also because I did genuinely like the original video when I first saw it. This PSY guy seems to have a healthy dose of self-irony going on in addition to some creative moves, which is a welcome breath of fresh air among the “pop stars” who think they and their pop music are all-important. I (and I guess Finns generally) like it more when people don’t take themselves too seriously. :p

Don’t worry about me making a habit out of this, though. It’ll probably be a good few years before I’ll go anywhere near another pop song again. That damn thing is still playing in my head at times! () Wop wop!

But enough of me rambling. I’ll get me coat.

Very belated reply, but thanks for an interesting read 🙂

Not sure why I called it a promo video when it obviously includes footage from the event, but anyway. Is there some more video from your set floating around? I’d love to see a bit more of the atmosphere.

Haha, there was no way I could resist Gangnam Style after that inspired video, but having heard everything from the original (about a million times), a Malaysian independence-themed remix, and Chinese pirate version during my recent trip, I might need to have a break from it for a while..

That said, it’s definitely a step above anything I’ve seen here lately for quirky and intentional cheesiness 😀
