A belated Top Ten for June – this month I’ve been listening to some other stuff in preparation for the next event, so I won’t include any of that. If I could get away with it, Alek Szahala’s Phobos would easily be in the top 5…but let’s wait and see if a finished version appears one day.
Two videos this time, both from Future Sound Of London’s Lifeforms album. If you haven’t heard it before, it includes some of the most inspiring/creative electronica you’ll find anywhere, and is almost certainly their best release (though Dead Cities runs it close). I was listening to it again for some ideas the other day, and it’s hard to believe it came out 16 years ago…
One more thing – in recent weeks the site has been under attack from a huge amount of (increasingly bizarre) spam, so it’s possible I might have missed a comment or two in the middle of it all. Please send an email to plasmadancer [ at ] ymail.com if you think yours might have been one of them.
- Betwixt & Between – Point of No Return
- Poly Calamity – Unam Sanctum
- Nomic – Painajaiskarkoittaja
- Nightforce & Twisted Freq – Ready or Not
- Alabaster – Revenant
- Betwixt & Between – Hydra
- Re-form – My Sickness
- Suge – Tanasinn
- Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest – Bloody Tears (RAF remix)
- Proteus – I See Things That You Don’t See (Guld remix)
Sorry to hear about the spam – hope you find a way to dodge it. :/
Nice top 10! Still haven’t heard Revenant. D; Painajaiskarkoittaja sure is a weird title, but it’s from Nomic so it must sound amazing.
The track I’ve been listening more out of all those is Hydra , though. Almost everyday; that last part is just so full of energy! shame the preceding part feels a bit ‘filler’ in comparasion. It’s that one minute that changes everything and puts this track as one of my all time favs!
I wasn’t expected to see FSOL in this blog – from the Dead Cities album I really like the awkwardly long named track “Everyone In The World Is Doing Something Without Me”

As I see Suge’s track on the list (btw tanasinn is some weird Japanese meme lol), I just have to say that Chimera is just a fantastic album. My favorite track from it is probably Terrible Oneness.

With a fast translation “Painajaiskarkoittaja” roughly means Nightmare Banisher 😉

Revenant will be in the set next week! I used Painajaiskarkoittaja in one of the previous sets, but perhaps you were away then. Very hard tune with a nice Nomic-style piano breakdown 🙂
I know just what you mean about Hydra…Betwixt seems to structure quite a few tunes like that these days. Great track though, no doubt!

Great choice of EITWIDSWM 🙂 I know, not the usual thing for the blog, but pretty much any electronic music fan/producer can learn a lot from FSOL…
Terrible Oneness was the other standout Suge track for me too – I just wish there was a bit more bass to the tunes, but otherwise it’s a brilliant release.
Thanks for the translation! Alchemiist came up with something involving ‘Nightmare’ too, but I couldn’t remember the second part 😉
