It’s the quietest summer for a few years, but there are still some great tracks out there. A few of these have had some play time in my off-the-cuff ustream sets, and might even end up in the next ‘studio mix’ (which I’m finally starting to think about again).
One of the things that has inspired me to do another real mix is this unbelievable Prodigy-only set from Bluefire. It was originally posted 5 years ago (!), but I dug it out again after listening to the Experience album this past week. Prodigy tunes aren’t really set up for mixing (as anyone who has tried will tell you), which makes some of the double drops/epic transitions in Bluefire’s set even more amazing. It’s absolutely recommended for anyone who hasn’t heard it yet, and after the slower opening section it thankfully concentrates on the Experience/Jilted Generation era. Check out Bluefire’s original post on Dogs On Acid, there might be an active link there somewhere.
- Dye In Sound – The Storyteller
- Betwixt & Between – Point Of No Return
- Proteus – Fist Of The North Star
- Samuel K – Neuromancer
- Suge – Tanasinn
- Betwixt & Between – Enter the Void
- Aquanox – Killer Loop
- Cyrez – Rock n Load
- Poly Calamity – Unam Sanctum
- Nomic – Muuttolintu
You are right in that there are a few gems around but to me it’s mostly about Betwixt & Between right now. The top of my “Top Ten” would probably be made out of his tunes. Looking something like this:
1. Betwixt & Between – 12 Little Fragments Of Silence
2. Poly Calamity – Unam Sanctum
3. Betwixt & Between – Hydra
4. Betwixt & Between – Enter The Void
Hehe, well, with the risk of being a bit boring.
The rest of the list would include Suge – Tanasinn because it has quite a unique sound with the psytrance’ish kicks and all. A breath of fresh air and a great track indeed!
And just to emphesize the awesomeness of the piece of pure art that is Voices of Babylon by Alek Szahala, this would also have to be in the list.
Oh and Plasmadancer, my anti-virus software went haywire when I clicked that link pointing to Bluefire’s original post on Dogs On Acid.
Good thing you mention Enter the Void, Nisse, as I had totally forgotten about it! Listening to it now. :3
The last TYFTH stream was full of gems. D;

Hehe, well, to be fair Plasmadancer kind of mentioned it in his top ten in the first post. 😉
It’s a very nice tune, yes!
I missed the “Alek Szahala special” but I’m sure that one kicked ass since the shows before that have been nothing short from mint!
Ah yeah, I completely overlooked that. D;
And I missed the Szahala show, too. So… hum… disregard everything I said. D;
In other news, Btw’s Surging is also pretty awesome.

I wouldn’t disagree too much with that Top 4…I’d actually forgotten about 12 Little Fragments Of Silence.
You know what? I was going to put Voices of Babylon as No.1 yet again, but decided against it…I think it’s going to ‘unofficially’ be in every Top Ten from now on, it was my most-listened to tune this month, too.
Almost nobody was there for the Alek-only set, but Miiru from Nagoya was listening from the start and giving some feedback. I had to cut it a bit short, so maybe I’ll do another one soon!
Sorry about the link, it might be better just to search DOA itself for the Bluefire Prodigy mix, there might be some more up-to-date links in other threads…

You’re right about Surging, great track indeed. Shame it’s another ‘impossible-to-mix-final-section’ tune, though…
In -even- other news, Alek Száhala is going to release another track this October in Worldwide Freeform Vol. 2! It will be the first time Betwixt and Alek will be in the same compilation, isn’t it? It’s reason enough to buy two copies, ffs. GETHYPE
Wonder which track will it be, though. I seriously hope it’s the one from Konefestari 2008, but maybe that one will be in Forgotten Melodies II or smth. Just need to hear the full, high-qual ver., though, as I’ve been listening to it a lot, lately. And I mean this one, in case someone missed it:

It’s beautiful… D; D; D;
also, been listening a lot to Stairway to Solstice. It’s almost ambient freeform; a lovely tune indeed. Now betwixt only needs to release Liberation to earn my vote as “artist of the year”. :p
