Anyone who follows mixu’s (aka pocketpool1000) YouTube channel might have noticed already, but there’s an extra artist name floating around from now on. PlasmaDancer was never even supposed to be a DJ name, and so for a while now I’ve been planning on using something else for any tracks I manage to come up with. Listening to the edit of my Hell’s Gate remix the other day, I decided that it’s just about dark enough to warrant the first use of my alias, Afagddu.
I’ve been reading Welsh myths for inspiraton for a while now (I already have a few unfinished tracks with a variety of unpronounceable Welsh names), and decided on Afagddu as it derives from the ancient Welsh for ‘utter darkness’. The whole story behind this pleasant fellow can be found on the Celtic knot-tastic Nemeton, while Beezee might be the only Horser with an idea of how to pronounce it – in Welsh one ‘f’ makes a ‘v’ sound, while ‘dd’ is more like ‘th’.
That makes it the most horrendous word imaginable for Japanese speakers, but I’ll still be PlasmaDancer for everything here/when DJing, so it’s not as if we’ll be seeing it often…

sweet mate. yeah ive got a GCSE in welsh second language, im not welsh but lived in Cardigan for my last 2 years of school and recently moved back to Llanelli for the past 2 years aswel. So yeah kind of pronounced Av-ag-thee i guess, quite an easy one in comparison to alot of Welsh words though so the people over in Japan are lucky ha ha 🙂

You’ve probably heard it by now, but it’s the PlasmaDancer remix from the anniversary set this year…the only difference is that nastier lead – I just went mad on the filters, which makes the tune a bit darker (and a lot muddier, but I’m not too bothered about that).

You’re right, though supposedly it was originally taken from the old Welsh ‘y fagddu’, which would be ‘utter darkness’. As most references to Afagddu himself seem to use that definition, I thought I’d stick with it too.

yeah Mancunian through and though, my dad moved to Wales about 15 years ago, i decided id join him for a couple of years to finish school (wasnt getting anywhere with my current school, too many ilegal distractions lol) then met my wife who is from Kidweli when she was living in Liverpool…we had mutual friends, anyway you get the picture ha ha, we moved back down here in 2010 to Llanelli and setled down pretty much. We need more decent club nights down here though is the only problem 🙂
